Research

The Unit’s research in prevention is characterized as interdisciplinary joint projects. The projects may be carried out within the framework of the Unit or within the framework of other departments/institutions. The research projects relate to the Unit’s work and development areas.

Supervision and Research Environment
In addition to supervision of Ph.D. studies, dissertation processes, and OSVAL-II tasks, the Unit is also responsible for supervision of scientific projects and other tasks relating to clinical prevention - locally, regionally and nationally.

Main Research Areas
General prevention
-
regarding tobacco, alcohol, physical activity, and ergonomics.

Efforts are being carried out to develop and investigate methods and models for the implementation of preventive efforts to be included in the daily routine at hospital clinics. In particular, focus is put on the patients’ perception of prevention conversations about tobacco and alcohol.

Specific prevention
Research on department prevention activities and on diagnosis-related prevention. This includes rehabilitation projects in connection with chronic diseases and prevention of surgical complications.

Health Services Research
Efforts are underway to register preventive initiatives on a national basis, including a current follow-up of these efforts. In particular, organization, resources and implementation strategies are under investigation. Furthermore, potential needs, possible organizational barriers for prevention and the patients’ own perception of prevention are likewise being investigated.
