| Every person who works in health services – no matter which specialty and where employed - frequently comes in contact with patients with an alcohol problem. Therefore, health care personnel need to know about prevention in this area.
Approximately every fifth hospital patient drinks more than the National Board of Health recommends. It is documented that preventive efforts within the framework of a hospital are effective. In spite of such documentation, alcohol prevention is not systematically included in a hospital patient’s total care and treatment process.
The purpose of this book is to give health care personnel at hospitals a tool that enables them to carry through systematic efforts when meeting patients who are heavy drinkers. The book presents the theoretical basis, the methodological basis and recommendations for conversations about alcohol habits and about advice on how to change habits.
